League of Legends Item Tiers

Items in League of Legends are split into quality tiers that reflect their power level and cost. Starter items are built for the early game, offering modest stats at a low gold cost. They are usually sold once the game progresses, since they do not build into higher-tier items. Basic items are single-stat components that serve as building blocks. They are cheap and always build into Epic or Legendary items.

Epic items combine multiple Basic items and start introducing secondary effects alongside higher stats. They are often bought as standalone pieces when a full Legendary item is not yet affordable. Legendary items are the most powerful tier, built from Basic and Epic components.

Boots operate on their own tier system. Tier 1 provides a small movement speed bonus. Tier 2 adds combat stats and is the standard upgrade for most players throughout the game. Tier 3 boots exist but are exclusive to the mid lane role quest. Upon completing their quest, mid laners receive a free Tier 3 boot upgrade alongside an empowered Recall that cuts the channel time from 8 seconds down to 4. There are also Consumables, which include potions and wards that provide temporary benefits without occupying a permanent item slot.

The LoLDB items database currently lists 278 items across all tiers.

League of Legends Item Stats Explained

Every item in the game modifies your champion through one or more stats. Attack Damage (AD) increases the damage of basic attacks and most physical abilities. Ability Power (AP) amplifies the effects and damage of magic-based abilities. Armor reduces incoming physical damage, and Magic Resistance does the same for magic damage. Health raises your champion's maximum HP, while Ability Haste lowers the cooldown of your abilities, letting you cast them more frequently.

Critical Strike Chance determines the probability of landing a critical hit, which deals bonus damage on basic attacks. Attack Speed controls how fast you attack. Mana and Mana Regeneration affect how quickly and how often you can cast abilities on mana-dependent champions.

Beyond base stats, many items include Unique Passives or Active abilities. Unique Passives only apply once, even if you, somehow, own multiple copies of the same item. Active abilities can be triggered manually during a match through the item's assigned hotkey and typically come with a cooldown.

How to Use the LoLDB Items Database

The LoLDB items page covers every item currently available on Summoner's Rift. Each entry includes the item's full build path, total gold cost, stats, and passive or active effects, so you can plan your build without switching between multiple tabs.

You can filter the database by stat type to focus on items relevant to your champion or role. Looking for Critical Strike items for a marksman? Filtering by that stat narrows the list immediately. Building a frontline tank? An Armor or Health filter pulls up the most relevant options. Each patch, item data updates to reflect any changes Riot pushes, so the numbers and effects shown are always current.
