Arcane Season 3 and What's Next for Riot's Animated Universe

Arcane became a massive success when it premiered on Netflix in 2021. The show received critical acclaim and is widely regarded as the best video game adaptation ever made, setting a new standard for how game worlds can translate to screen.
The series adapts just one story from Runeterra, which is a part of League of Legends universe that contains countless regions, characters, and conflicts. Arcane focused specifically on the cities of Piltover and Zaun, but this represents only a small fraction of the world Riot Games has built over the years.
In this article, we'll explore how Arcane concluded, whether there will be a season 3, and what's next for Riot's animated universe as they expand beyond Piltover and Zaun.
Arcane Season 2 Ending (Spoiler Alert)

The final episode of Arcane season 2 was well received by fans and critics, but it left viewers with questions about what happened to their favorite characters.
Jayce and Viktor ended up destroying the Hextech rune together. The show doesn't explicitly show what happened to them after, but fans have theories suggesting they might've been teleported to a different plane of existence or sent to a different time.
The biggest question on fans' minds was Jinx's fate. After she sacrifices herself to save her sister Vi, it's implied that she might've escaped through air ducts. Caitlyn is shown looking over Hextech schematics while holding the remnant of Jinx's grenade, which suggests she possibly survived the explosion.
In Mel's last scene, we see her on her mother's ship, likely headed to Noxus. This might be our hint for the next show in Riot's animated universe.
Will There Be a Third Season for Arcane?

The short answer is no. The stories of Jinx and Vi have concluded with season 2, as Arcane was always focused on the Piltover and Zaun storyline from the beginning.
Speaking in a Twitch interview with streamer Necrit94, showrunner Christian Linke confirmed that "Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia are getting shows and are [the] next steps into this cinematic universe." This means if your favorite champion from League of Legends wasn't in Arcane, you could be seeing them brought to life soon.
League of Legends creator Marc Merrill has also stated that the plan was always to continue and expand the universe beyond Arcane.
What's Next for Riot's Universe

Showrunner Christian Linke revealed that a new League of Legends show has been in development for a year already, so fans won't have to wait much longer to see what comes next.
Most fans have speculated that the next show will be set in Noxus based on several clues. Mel's ending showed her traveling back to Noxus after becoming a leader, which seemed like a clear setup for what's coming.
Other clues appeared in the teaser trailer for the League of Legends 2025 season called "Welcome to Noxus." The trailer shows Mel arriving on the shores of Noxus and features a conversation between LeBlanc and Vladimir, where LeBlanc says, "Piltover was a lesson," talking about the events of Arcane. These hints strongly suggest that Noxus will be the setting for Riot's next animated series.
Final Words
Arcane took Studio Fortiche around 9 years to complete from start to finish, which means fans are looking at a long wait before the next show drops. Riot has invested in the French studio, so they'll probably be the ones animating the next series as well. If the quality stays consistent with Arcane, the wait will be worth it.
